Ana Deida is a Nasa indigenous woman belonging to the Resguardo Indígena de Huellas Caloto. She has extensive experience militating in the indigenous movement, where she was empowered politically and in the defence of indigenous rights. As a woman indigenous leader, she participated in inter-ethnic dialogues for the resolution of conflicts between indigenous, afro-Colombian, and campesino communities.
Ana participated in the training and capacitation programme for gender policies and development of women’s rights. She was also the coordinator of the Women’s Programme of the Resguardo Indígena de Huellas Caloto and, subsequently, the second ever elected governor of the Resguardo between 2006 and 2007. She coordinated the School ‘Cristobal Secue’ in derecho propio. She was also the legal representative for the Resguardo. Between 2009 and 2010, she accompanied several victims of the armed conflict in the north of the Cauca Department. She also represented the ACIN in the Colombian peace process, putting forward proposals elaborated by the indigenous community in the north of the Cauca Department.
Currently, she accompanies the indigenous movement in different fora of social and inter-ethnic dialogue, and she is also part of the departmental committee of the Movimiento Alternativa Indiana y Social - MAIS in representation of women.
