Piergiuseppe is a Lecturer at the York Law School and the Centre for Applied Human Rights. He is the principal investigator on the Ritualising Protection Project.
Piergiuseppe previously worked as a research associate for the Generating Respect Project at the Centre for Applied Human Rights. Prior to that, he led research on environmental and human rights defenders as part of the Human Rights Defender Hub, as well as on how how to measure and mitigate equalities and human rights impacts in public decision-making as part of the project ‘Shaping a Human Rights-Based Approach to COVID-19 in the City of York’. In the past, Piergiuseppe worked as a research assistant for the HERA-funded MELA (Memory Laws in European and Comparative Perspective) Project.
Piergiuseppe has consulted for or collaborated with civil society organisations including Amnesty International UK and War on Want, and he interned at the International Criminal Court and REDRESS. In addition, Piergiuseppe has extensive field experience in Colombia and Israel and Palestine. He has published several articles and book chapters in English, Spanish and Italian.
Piergiuseppe holds a PhD in International Studies from the School of International Studies at the University of Trento (Italy).
